Vertical Lightsaber Wall Hanger

Not particularly happy with the options available on Amazon.
What do people use? Where do you find them?

Ideally, I’d want something in a dark wood, that looks nice and isn’t overly “chunky”.

Broom hangers is what I’ve seen most commonly.

I’m sure people have come up with other ideas though.

Personally, once I have “enough” (it will never be enough :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:, but at least enough to fit a side/slice of wall)), I would want to make my own based on something like this:

And 3D print my own custom brackets that would perfectly fit each sabers I (will) own.

I’ve seen that, but I don’t quite get why, since they don’t really look very nice.

Right now I’m trying to hang a single lightsaber in my wife’s office though…

I think it’s really hard to 3d print something that actually looks nice.

I looked up pool cue hangers, and most of those actually look nice, but they are all for 4 or more cues… Why do pool cues get nice hangers and lightsabers don’t?

Nice is very “subjective” (I believe this is the translation from the French word “subjectif” aka depending on one’s opinion, opinions are like a$$.h0les, everybody has one, but no need to share/show it to everybody - sorry I digress). For example I just finished a 3D printed pommel for my saber, I love it but my kids don’t, they think it is TOO MUCH, that does not exists in my (imaginary) world.

With LEGO, they say the limit is your imagination. I disagree, the limit is what/how many parts you have (and I know, I have been collecting LEGO for almost 50 years). With a 3D printer you can keep on adding until you run out of build plate, then you need to add a bit of engineering to combine multiple plates. If you can’t design it, just search for it, somebody would have designed (and shared) something close to what you are looking for. Just re-cut/re-slice/re-mix it (or whatever the kids are saying nowadays) and make it your own! The only limit is truly your imagination.

What are you after:

  • A nice (define/describe nice) panel in dark wood (size ? Yes it does matter to wives ). Not my skill-set but I can visualize(ish)

  • A pair of nice “clips”: describe color, material, size (the one that matters for the saber, not the wife )

  • Themed (SW, LOTR, Ghostbusters, the other one(s) that start with Star - but I won’t mention them, Jurassic Park, Transformers, … and the list goes on , or just “plain and simple with seem-less rounded corners/edges”, elaborate mix of curves and straight “geometric” edges and/or engraving like my grand-parents used to like. I like IKEA 90° corners and straight parallel edges style, my wife likes what she calls classic/antique. If I had rented a pink Cadillac with wings on our wedding day, she probably would have divorced me on the spot! We had a “classic” Rolls-Royce white convertible! That she liked.

I am sorry, I know I am rambling (even more than usual) but:

TLDR; describe nice in as much details as you can.

This is nice:

Too bad it’s for 6 pool cues and not one lightsaber.

You could also try looking at Guitar racks. There are a few interesting designs that might serve your need and don’t look awful. The one could be hung upside-down for a lightsaber. My collection is on 3d printed horizontal racks–and I’ll also echo that suggestion. I haven’t designed a vertical mount yet, but I was thinking of a design that uses the covertec to support the hilt to minimize the footprint.

Agreed, it is not only nice, it is also “simple” aka not hard to modify.

For the top part:

I am sure you (or your local carpenter-at least my local carpenter) can remove the clips (I guess they must be attached from the back with some “hidden” IKEA style screws) or drill them out.

Drill a hole dead center, print an “adequately” (no second degree meaning this time ) sized clip for a saber blade (if you want to mount it blade up) on a personalized plaque (her favorite color(s), logo, name …) with circled edges (sorry I don’t know if that shape even has a name - but basically, cut a circle in half, split the two halves on a straight horizontal line and reconnect the two with a rectangle that has the short edge the same hight as the diameter of the circle).

After you drill the dead center hole, fill it up with a wooden peg or something similar, dipped in something non stick & slippery (again no pun intended), make sure it sticks out “above” the round rectangular hole line, and fill the rectangular round hole with resin, colored with your pigment of choice. It would help to get rid of bubbles if you had a vacuum chamber, or you use the bubbles as a feature rather than a flaw (but I don’t know how).

Maybe once it is cured, sand them down/out and fill them with sparkle (if your wife is into that) and reseal them with more resin or superglue. Personally (for my wife), I would go with a star/galaxy map black background with silver sparkle in the holes.

Ok so that was for the top part of the pool cue holder.

For the bottom part, flip it 180° so the 6 holes don’t show, get it carved for the size and shape of the pommel, and for the 4 grooves of the bottom part, I would give it the same resin/sparkle as above.

I hope you can visualize “my vision”.

I did use broom holders. White, individual ones though which mostly are not noticeable in the big picture.

I use this type out in the shop, and I was going to get a couple of dark grey or black ones and mount it on a wood plaque of some sort for use in the house. Maybe paint it a SW theme. I like the fact that there’s no chance of scratching the blade.
Broom hanger

Remember, it is for his wife! I give that to my wife today, I pay alimony tomorrow. But yes, for me, I wouldn’t mind.

Ok maybe not alimony, but I would certainly sleep on the sofa for a week !

That’s actually a very good point.
The saber in question is a Mace Windu saber, which does have a covertec thingy on it.
It doesn’t matter so much what it looks like if you basically can’t see it.

I wonder if I could use one of these:

And then have a magnet screwed to the wall to keep the saber vertical?

Well the answer to that is no, the hilt is mostly aluminum, which is of course not magnetic.

You could do a loop of fishing line from a screw behind the blade to wrap around and hold it vertical.
Not sure how much it needs to be removed and put back up, but sliding the blade in and out of the loop might work?

Here’s a couple of options I found on Etsy. The second link has a bunch of them.

If you 3D print your own, I would recommend to use Ironing on all top surfaces, concentric pattern. it gives a nice flat finished pattern. If your slicer has that option. I am using Bamboo Studio or Orca Slicer, they both have it.

This one seems fairly invisible.

Which manufacturer? I’m about to install my 89Sabers and I could design a support that uses the covertec plus some support above so it stays vertical but the structure is on the wall.
I can send you the STL for you to print.

Doesn’t seem like there is a need to design another one, as there are lots available on thingiverse and elsewhere. That said, I’m not particularly interested in 3d-printed options.

Maybe I’ll treat this as an opportunity to get my mini-mill going…
