Speaker crackles, but only for swings

I’ve got a saber that I built recently, was working fine, and it’s all of a sudden developed a crackle when swung.

I’ve tried replacing the SD card, replacing the speaker, and checked all the connections. Everything sounds great until I swing. Any thoughts?

I’ve also validated the OS version and tried different batteries. OS version is 6.7.

Check the basics like the solder points if you are able, but a new SD card fixed that issue for me. I had switched over to a cheaper SD card not thinking there would be a difference and was very frustrated that I was getting crackling. I switched over to a name brand card and the issue was resolved.

I’ve tried two different sandisk ultra cards. It’s not the SD.

Three now, including one known good.

Crackling at 300 volume? That is pretty odd.
What font are you using? Is it any different with another font?
You should multimeter the voltage on the 5V pad when it’s playing sound. If it’s less than 5V and/or it’s fluctuating or something, that could be an issue with the booster.

I’m seeing 5V at the booster, just checked it.

Forgot to add - all fonts I’ve tried. These are just the standard GREEN and BLUE fonts, so nothing crazy there.

I did notice I can replicate it on sounds other than swings - I have the mouth saber font and its hum crackles. Works fine on other sabers, so it’s not the font.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the 5V pad should register 0 when not playing sound, right?

How juiced up is the battery? I always noticed sounds start to “crackle/distort” once the battery reaches down to 25-30% left. Charge that battery up to full capacity and see if the crackles persist.

both of my proffies, a working one and this one, are showing 5V just sitting there. I’m on 5V out and the ground three pins over.

Tried multiple batteries, I’m afraid. All charged up. First thing I thought it might be. Happens with or without a blade inserted as well.

How close is the speaker cone to the pommel? I do know sometimes if there is no room between them, the speaker cone movement as it pushes air can brush up against the inside of the pommel causing a noise that sounds like ‘crackle/distortion’

Wish it were that. It’s got all kinds of room- it’s a flagship. I’m out picking up prescriptions but when I get home I’ll make a video of the behaviors.

Does it happen on all fonts or just some?
Are you sure there aren’t crackling sounds in the swing sounds?
Can you record a video so we can see/hear what’s going on? (Post it on youtube and link here.)
I’m wondering if this is maybe a software problem, but that wouldn’t explain why it suddenly started happening. Another possibility would be if the motion chip is returning weird data.

As for the 5V thing; if you have any accent leds on, then 5v will also be running all the time.

All fonts, and it does happen on swing as well.

There aren’t any accent LEDs - all three blades are ws281x.

Does it make any difference if you remove the filter?

It almost sounds like hardware (Speaker) issues. On the speaker itself…the plastic back that is glued to the metal surroundings that holds the cone, has the glue come loose or are there any loose parts on the speaker itself? Its sounds like vibration “chatter” when plastic are fluttering against metal.
