USB-C for data and charging

Hello there,
I’m trying to build my first lightsaber. I bought a “Keeppower 21700 R 15A 5000mAh 3.6V–3.7V PCB” battery and a Proffieboard v3.9.
I’m wondering if I can wire everything so that I can charge the lightsaber via the USB-C port and also use it for data transfer.
As I understand it, I don’t need a separate charging PCB because my battery already has built-in protection against overcharging and deep discharging.
I would be very grateful for your help!

You don’t need a separate charging PCB because V3 boards support charging. The protection on the battery does not allow you to charge directly from 5 volts.

You can wire a USB-C jack to the pads on the Proffieboard, and charging will work. It will be a bit slow since V3 boards charge at 450mA, but it will work. If you want faster charging, you’ll need a separate charging board.

I don’t need fast charging. Slow charging is perfectly fine.

But what about data transfer? The Proffie board has a micro USB port and I was wondering if I could use USB-C instead, using the same port for both charging and data transfer. Is that possible? Can I find a wiring diagram for it?

Yes, wire up the USB pads on the proffie to the USBC board.

They’re the three gold rectangle pads surrounding the microUSB port. VUSB goes to USBC 5V, D+ to D+ and D- to D-
