Tri-Cree Baselit Questions - Probably Basic

EDITED TO ADD: Tried editing based on the configurator, then nothing lit up, lol. I’ve found a few of the styles that seem to work and I can probably tweak those to get them to flash the blade the way I want it to. The adapter seems to behave like it’s just the base LED in the string (based on how effects seem to work or not).

A coupla three years ago, I got my hands dirty and did some serious digging into Proffie stuff and got things all setup nice, no small thanks to folks here. Put some fancy profiles and fonts on there, lots of fun. And then I didn’t touch a damn thing for 3 years. It all worked how I wanted, so why bother, yanno? Problem is now I wan to change things again, so I’m /basically/ starting from scratch again. My questions are /probably/ super basic.

I’m also trying to setup my hilt for baselit / sparring, so switching from a Neopixel blade to one of these guys: Tri Cree LED Adapter Standard – Crimson Dawn®

On the plus side, for several of my fonts, it works / looks fine - for several others, however, it’s a mess. Everything from just the wrong color to strange flickering, etc.

I’m assuming I probably need to go poke around in Arduino proper and (using the configurator) update my config for the different type of “blade”, yes? I vaguely remember having the wrong number of LEDs set on the neopixel making for some fun times.

Or can I cheat and just use the web workbench (https://profezzorn.github.io/lightsaber-web-bluetooth/app.html) and change stuff up there?

The workbench will let you change styles in presets, and if your OS has dynamic blade length compiled in, then it will also let you change the length of your blade, which might be enough for what you need. However, if your OS is 3 years old, it might not have dynamic blade length…

Anyways, if you need to set up blade detect, or change the RGB ordering, then the workbench will not help and you will need to use Arduino, or the ProffieConfig tool to set it up.

I don’t /think/ I’ve got dynamic blade length compiled in - when was that introduced? I believe I’m running ProffieOS 6.7

I did see a spot in the configuration for the workbench about blade length, and I can change the value there, but it mostly seemed to make things behave worse than they were.

I also realized that it doesn’t make sense to change the blade / LED thing in the config file because the Proffie is still wired up like it goes to a neopixel (the adapter uses a neopixel contact point and probably does some internal translation to the Tri-Cree).

Home now, was able to test with neopixel blade. The blade length setting under settings on the work bench does, in fact, change the number of lit pixels. Interestingly enough, though, once I close settings, I need to reload the page to get that particular setting to show back up. So on to more testing we go.

I’m pretty sure the adapter is supposed to behave like a single neopixel.
If it’s not doing that, you might need to talk to the people you bought it from.
