Nice and Iāve half joked with Apple about giving that option as a keyboard for their laptops. Whereād ya get the board or keys from if I may ask. *Honestly by this point and age (for me) it shouldnāt even matter unless I really REALLY have to see what keys Iām typing anyhow.
Whenever I last pulled off my keycaps to clean the board, I didnāt use a reference to put them back (suffice to say theyāre subtly wrong). Itās not a problem for typing, but I was learning a new program/keyboard shortcuts and it messed with me at least a couple times lmao.
Keyboard is a Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR.
Keycaps came from MaxKeycap on Etsy.
The keyboard sounds quite nice, but Iām going to replace the switches with some quiet ones.
Turns out that keyboards is an entire hobby unto itself; some people collect keyboards like we do lightsabersā¦
Oh I totally know. Iāve a little batch of friends who are gamers/programmers and one even works with a gaming company. All of them have desktop, keyboard, even desk and chair setups that make our little hobby look cheap.
Yes, my son is crazy about keyboards. And one of the big Gen Z holiday gift requests this year: analogue typewriters. They love old tech.
Had to adapt Aurebesh alittle with some Star Wars symbolsā¦
āEnterā = X-Wing (enter the Death Star Trench?)
āEscapeā = Rebel (makes perfect sense!)
" Tilde" = Jedi (so civilizedā¦)
āHomeā = Empire
āPgUpā = ATAT (Tall?)
āPgDnā = Death Star (Planet Down?)
āEndā = A-Wing?
Yeah, I wish they used symbols that would be more likely to appear in-universe, but any alternative keycaps I could find were worse in this regard. I mean not even the most dedicated troops of the empire would have a āvaderā key, right?
The Vader key is a dedicated hotkey in the emperorās chair arm. Press for apprentice.
Press to make his Life Support Equipment malfunction ![]()
Waits to see Ctrl-Z for Anakin. Itāll be a āfire extinguisher commandā.

I got my quiet switches and did the replacement, and now Iām not entirely sure which I like better. The noisy switches have a satisfying thock that sounds quite nice when Iām typing. Every sentence is like a Fred Aistair tap dance number. When I use the quiet switches however, I completely forget that the keyboard is even there, which might be even betterā¦
Are you learning aurebesh? I sense you are
One with the keys and donāt really see them. I had a friend in college who used blank keys and moved several of them.
A fond memory: as heās typing away at the same keyboard I asked what you can do with the āworld wide webā. He was running a green screen Linux machine. And he thought about it and declared: āyou can communicateā.
