I have an install coming up in which it would be useful to have the speaker in front of the Proffieboard, such that the sound from the speaker would be, as it were, flowing over the board.
I’m just wondering if anyone else has much experience of this, and if so, were there any issues such as excessive false clashes.
My first ever install had this many years ago, but the install was pretty ropey and I don’t think the speaker was very powerful, so I don’t think my experience with that one is especially helpful (although it did work OK, I must say). But other than that, it’s not a layout that crops up very often.
My hunch is that with the more sophisticated clash detection in ProffieOS these days, that it could probably be made to work with a little dialling in if necessary, but I still wouldn’t mind hearing others’ experiences before I spend time designing and installing the chassis for this one.
Any thoughts welcome.
I think the Lukyanov Oggdo Killer chassis had the speaker near the emitter without issues. I don’t think it makes a difference as long as the sound is pointing away from the board?
Speakers put out nearly as much sound through the back as they do through the front, so putting the speaker in front of or behind the proffie makes very little difference I think. Also, false clashes tends to be caused by vibration travelling through the chassis, not the sound.
Yeh, that’s what I mean though - in the case the speaker would be firing right at the board.
Yeh, that’s always been my experience - motors, iffy board mountings, rattling chassis - I’ve had instances of false clashes from all of those. But the level of clash tuning built into ProffieOS nowadays means I’ve generally been able to dial in the settings to fix it. But yes, I take your point about speakers pushing/pulling backwards and forwards.
Sounds like this one has a green light. I’m still deciding exactly how to lay it out, but if I do do this speaker setup, I’ll report back on how well it works.
Thanks as always guys.

For the record, my original TeensySaber V1 build worked like this, and while it does affect the sound a bit, it should work just fine.
