Sound gone from lightsaber and random behaviour when pressing the only button

Hello, while on and perfectly working the sound of my lightsaber (single button configuration) has completely gone. After this and for a period of time the saber was coming on/off as required and was able to switch between presets. However now, on top of the no sound issue the saber will eventually light up to a random preset that I cannot change and I am only able to switch it on and off.

I have a Proffieboard V2.2 with no USB port, only a microSD card slot. The micro SD card is the one that came originally and it is certainly not one of the recommended ones (Patriot, G. Skill, etc.).

I am not by any means an expert but the wiring around the Proffieboard/speakers/button board appears to be in order. So I have started looking into the Proffieboard / microSD card for an issue there. My idea (wrong or right) is to format the microSDcard, reinstall the firmware and see what happens. I don't know if I need to do something about the Proffieboard itself.

My computer is an iMac that has a built-in SD Card slot. I use and adaptor to fit the microSD card in. I have formatted it with the SDCard Formatter app to FAT32 and it shows in Finder (the iMac explorer app).

I use Arduino v2.1.0 with Proffieboard v3.6 installed. I have selected Proffieboard V2 as board and set the USB type to basically every option proposed (as part of the troubleshouting exercise). It looks like Arduino selects the following Port "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port Serial Port" and there is nothing I can do about that (as far as I know) as there are no other Port options available.

I have included the “myconfig.h” file in the config folder of the ProffieOS folder present in my desktop and have define it in the ProffieOS.ino area of Arduino as per instructions found in this forum. When clicking on the upload arrow button the system starts to compile and the whole process ends with a FAIL message as per below:

FAIL

And this is as far as I can go. Could you please kindly point me into the right direction ? Am I right in assuming that the microSD card could be the most probable reason for this malfunction ? How can I upload the compiled stuff into it? Is there anything I can do to the board itself (boot/reset) and how since I do not have any USB port on it ?

Thank you very much for your help, including the bits that I was already able to pick up in The Crucible.

Regards,

Limarandos

Not sure I understand your post but the 1…10 FAIL can be resolved by selecting your Proffieboard in Tools > Port before uploading.

You can ignore the warning messages the precede it.

Thanks Fett263. I have selected my Proffieboard in Tools (Proffieboard V2). I can’t select anything on Port since it is already preselected as “/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port Serial Port”. I do not have any other options. Any other thoughts ?
Cheers,

You may have driver issues then, try this

2 important clues here

Thanks Fett263. It looks like that is more oriented towards Windows users with boards that have an USB port. I am kind of stuck with my late 2013 iMac which has the latest OSX installed.

Missed that, you don’t have a Proffieboard if you don’t have a USB port, you can’t do anything to your board without the USB port. If someone sold you this as a Proffieboard I’d get a refund.

Hi Cetpada, that’s right. I struggle to find a previous solved case of someone in that situation…What do you reckon ?

That’s because all Proffieboards have a USB, unless yours was damaged, without a USB port you can’t do anything to the board. If your board came without a USB port then you were mislead and I would get a refund. If you damaged the board and removed the USB port then you’ll need a replacement.

I see, that explains…The board is 3 years old so it took some beating. I am unable to tell if there was an USB port once. I have uploaded a photo:

How can I get a replacement ? Do you think this is something I can do myself (hehe) ?

Looks like the USB was removed or fell off, so you can’t do any updates. Depends on your ability to solder if you can replace, if you’re comfortable de-soldering the current board and installing a new one then go for it, if not then you’ll need a new install. That’s up to you. Did you buy it 3 years ago or someone sold it to you and they bought it 3 years ago. If someone sold this to you and said it was a Proffeboard but failed to inform you it was damaged I would still seek a refund as that is very misleading a Proffieboard without a USB is like a car without a steering wheel.

I bought it as “brand new” from this website for Xmas 2020: Galacticsabersuk Reviews | Read Customer Service Reviews of www.galacticsabersuk.co.uk
I should have read the reviews at the time…Their customer service and coms were unreliable and not terrible so I would not be surprised if they tricked me…But who knows if I did not damage it myself in duels and stuff.
Right; thanks very much Fett263 for your help. I will now start investigating the process of installing a new board and see if it is within my capabilities.
I will most probably come back for help:  . Regards.

If you are on Facebook, I would go to Darkwolf Sabers’ business page, and message them with this issue. Johnny Collado, the owner, is a US partner with LGT/Nexus - which is what your proffieboard is. Explain the issue to him, along with a picture of your core. He may be able to help you out. As Fett263 pointed out, what you have is basically a broken board. If it was sold to you this way, (and advertised as a proffieboard), then you were misled. Other LGT/Nexus resellers buy these boards from Johnny for their saber fulfillments, so he’ll want to know if another reseller out there is selling damaged boards and advertising them as new or functional.

This is what DarkWolf sold as a Xenoboard v1. They were defective Proffieboards that got programmed then the USB port removed.

Is this a Xenopixel v1 board @astromech ? I can’t find anything out there with the name “Xenoboard v1”…

Yeah, sorry. Xenopixel v1.

These are what were sold as "Almost Proffie"s.

Abominations.

Thanks NitTheGrit,
I have contacted Darkwolf:
"So from start they misled you. Those are proffies but called almost proffie cause the usb ports missing they was selljng them the vendors at very low cost because u cant chamge settings only sounds fonts at specific bank #
*Sound issue replace speaker *
Function depends on firmware but sounds like u in battle mode. Hold button hit saber exits that mode.
Yes they lied to u"
You are right.
