So there is no way to hard turn off the OLED display?

I tried wiring a small slide switch on the Positive power and on the Negative GND wires and non of them could turn off the display completely, it just dimmed and freeze or lagging. It can be turned off only by software?

It’s probably leeching power from a data line, same as neopixels do if you try to cut power without turning it off. That probably means software support is required to turn it off.
