Hey guys, hopefully you aren’t all tired out from greyscale questions. I’ve used the section in the blade builder for a few fonts that I like to change the format and save space. one that appears to be missing is binary, one of my favorites. it’s the one that changes back and forth between red and blue when you activate the force function. I’ve been adding it just by copying the greyscale version, but it takes up way way too much space. are there any other styles that do this? I know there is one from visions and one from the acolyte, I think, but you can’t go back and forth with those ones. any suggestions? thanks.
@Fett263 have you had the time to mirror all the old Greyscale blade styles into the OS7 library yet?
no, I haven’t. I’m ashamed to admit that the extent of my knowledge with the coding of blade styles is copying and pasting from other configs and Fett’s style library.
are you talking about where you paste outdated styles in and it reconfigures them for OS7? I think I may have tried it once but received an error code or ran into some roadblock that I couldn’t figure out. I probably gave up too quickly. maybe I’ll give it another try. can you point me in the right direction?
For clarity, in Fett’s OS7 Style Library you scroll down thru all of the bladestyle categories and there’s a section specifically for the Greyscale Fonts blade styles. It’s been a bit though and last I’d looked he was still building that out so as to mirror Greyscale’s classic syntax blades to the newer ARG style syntax that saves some space. you should take a look and see what’s available and if doing a build using the ARG syntax saves any space.
- That said, it doesn’t look like @Fett263 has had the time to do Binary. You’re welcome to DM it to me using the ``` trick to insert it and I can see if ARG-ifying it’ll do anything.
sorry. I obviously misunderstood that post. a lot of them are on there, but a few are missing, including the binary one.
I have not had a chance, I had started looking a while ago but then had to jump into OS8 development.
Binary is pretty straightforward to recreate and/or improve in the libary. Just build a Multi-Phase style in the BladeBuilder. They used “Multi-Phase (Force Effect)” but you can technically do any control you wanted for Multi-Phase and set up one blade in Blue Rotoscope for light-side and one in Red Rotoscope for dark-side.
Then just add options you wanted, like an Power Up Effect, Swing Effect, etc. You can also apply transitions between phases depending on the method chosen

Just thinking out loud here, but would it be possible to have some sort of converter on the style library?
So the ability to paste the ‘old style’ (e.g. the OS6 GreyScale style) and after that an upgraded OS7 (or 8 eventually) style is copied to clipboard?
I figure it’s probably way easier said than done, but that would be a nice way to upgrade styles and save some space in the progress.
Not in my library. My library assembles the style based on options selected, it has no way to understand what someone else is trying to do. It takes me a lot of time to “decipher” what Greyscale is trying to do, make it comptible with the library, make it more efficient and then convert to selections that users can edit. It’s not a simple “one size fits all” process.
Awesome. Thanks. I haven’t tried doing a multi-phase one yet. Good excuse to give it a try.
I can’t believe I haven’t done this before. it’s so easy, and there are so many options.
@OnukAwun FWIW share the bladestyle you came up with using the ``` before and after the copy and paste so I can take a look at it too. Sam @ Greyscale Fonts sent me the link to view what Kristian had built for him and I’d love to compare the two versions. ![]()
Glad to hear, by and large most of the Greyscale styles are variations on existing styles, you can usually recreate via the library already.
