Silicone diffusion led strip tubes

Has anyone ever tried using one of these in their pixel blade setup to see how well they would do for even diffusion? I’m sure they’d add a little more weight to your setup, but could it be worth it?

Thanks for the discovery. No I never even knew that existed. What would you want to use them for ? Lightsaber whip ?

Actually the OD would be perfect for the inside of a 1" poly tube for the blade. I was just looking for a simple, single layer solution for good diffusion instead of having to use 3 different layers of diffusion material(trans tube+foam+plastic) around my pixel stick. I’ll let you know how it turns out. If they are as they’re advertised then they’d be well worth the low cost.

The issue I can see is that the inner shape might cause uneven diffusion.

I bought several different sizes for testing. They are heavy… I’ve only done a small amount of simple testing and they do diffuse light more evenly than conventional foam but I have not finished testing (I have a very long list of projects). My lead project is to create a light-whip using a 1" OD tube. My concerns are the 1" OD will not fit into a 1" blade and the 7/8" will rattle around too much…

Here’s a picture from my initial tests:

Posted the picture to the OpenSource FB group to save server space, assuming most of us have access to that FB group.

I’d be interested to see but don’t use FB. In case you wanna drop a select pic or two here

Which shape did you use? D13 / D22A / D22B?

What’s the OD? I wonder if it can fit in a pinch, or if basically it just won’t work?

And how heavy are we talking here? I really like the idea, but blades are already a bit heavy… wouldn’t want something crazy.

My AliE purchase history doesn’t go back that far… I’ll need to dig them out (I shelved the project almost a year ago…), but I’m fairly certain I got round tubes with ODs of 13, 16, 22, and 25. I’ll look for them and weigh a 1m tube.
