RC Build - Daihatsu Hijet Tianjin WPL D42 Van (White Bear)

Hi all,
I’m new here and want to share the project I’m working on. I have a background in 3D modeling and 3D printing. I’m familiar with the proffie ecosystem mildly but it seems like it will be easy to catch on. So, I purchased an RC van a few weeks ago. It had headlights (warm white), full steering, suspension, two speeds, and two steering distances. I quite enjoy driving it and I’m pretty sure others do too. I started driving it to and from walks to work. I wanted more lighting for it so I ordered a sound and light module from GT Power here , I tried installing it, but since I’m new to RC I was confused by the wiring and gave up. I recently ordered a new rear axle and drive train. These fit poorly or not at all, on top of a set screw falling out so the wheel came off :-1: ----

So, I went to the WPL website and ordered a new receiver and controller, light kits (wired LEDs), a metal gearbox, and a new rear axle. While I was waiting for those to arrive, I painted the cab and seats, both interior and exterior. Fast forward to last night talking with my friend who does sabers. We discussed adding neopixels and a proffie 2.2 that I purchased during Lockdown. I initially thought of adding LEDs with integrated chips that make them blink and capacitors that will dim when the power is cut. I am looking forward to showing you all the progress on this project.

Welcome to the Crucible!

Thanks so much!

I started laying out the wiring and looking into utilizing the video display setup branch. I want to make some animations for the group in blender and make a distributable file in Blender. Long goal will be to have a responsive speedometer video and dash console video display along w lighting and sfx. I found a personal alarm on the street that was super low on power making a cute melody. I will sample this for the “engine” sound font.

I designed a console with light tubes to separate the different leds. These will be wired to the turn signals respectively and the others will be steady on. The engine on light will be a blinking led, and I would love it if the battery actually dimmed or blinked when it runs low.

I’m really enjoying the documentation of the proffie and will probably need to upgrade from a 2 to the 3 version to do video.
More to come as things are delivered over the holidays!!
