Hello there, I have received a core with proffieboard 2.2, which my friend has dropped dozen of times and it started behaving strangely. It turns on OK, everything works, but at one point it starts acting like button was being pressed. It does the blaster shots, goes to color change menu and preset changes. Button is still responsive for some time but after a while it stops working completely.
Initially it was a two-button setup and I thought it was the button problem, so I have switched it to one button and uploaded proper settings. It did not help so I removed the button completely and shorted the BUTTON1 and BATT- to check if it helped. It did not, still the same and at one point board stops reacting to push, but font is still running. I suspect that it goes bad when it warms up, because if you remove battery and let it cool down, it starts working properly for some time.
Additionally, the speaker is working quite bad with disturbed sound. I have removed it for test, but it was not the cause of problem.
There is a connection between both BATT- and GND. Parts of board get warm, but maybe that is normal.
Sorry, there is no way to upload videos, I can add link to youtube:
What should I check? Is it possible that there is a sort circuit on board?
Thanks in advance for your help!
No, it is not normal.
Do you know what part of the board is getting warm?
Sometimes heat is caused by a short somewhere, and removing the short fixes the problem.
Sometimes, the short is inside a chip, and fixing it is not possible.
Sometimes the board keeps working normally when warm, sometimes it needs to be replaced…
So, those two things are very different, making both hot would be weird. But maybe it’s just the heat spreading.
The top one is the amplifier. It shouldn’t get hot unless your speaker has a short. It has overheating protection, so even if your speaker has a short it should be ok once you fix the short. (If this is where the heat is coming from.)
The bottom one is the FET for LED1. If it is getting hot, then it is either broken, or you have a short on LED1. It doesn’t have any built-in protection, and it will break if it gets too hot. (Too hot is pretty hot though…) If you have a LED pad you’re not using, you might want to move whatever is connected to LED1 to that pad and update the configuration accordingly.
Hi Profezzorn, thanks for your hints. Really appreciated. Actually blade was set on data pin 1 and LED pins 2+3. I have switched the LED 4+5 but it did not help. Seems it was not related. I will just need to admit the board is broken from falling too many times. I will upgrade to 3.9 and maybe use this opportunity to implement POV.
