Possible "endswing" sound?

Talked about it a little bit in this thread, but wanted to create a new topic as to not clog an unrelated thread up

I’ve noticed that when hard stopping the saber after the accent swing has already played, you get this kinda jarring sudden stop to the smoothswing, which IMO sounds kinda jank. Having a sound that’s played when you quickly decelerate the saber would mitigate this, as seen in this mockup I’ve made (note that it doesn’t loop, it plays once without the endswing and then plays again with an endswing sound crudely edited in using video editing software i barely know how to use):

The endswing sound in that video doesn’t start playing until the saber has come to a stop, so I’m pretty sure it’s replicable in real-time. Of course, someone with some more A/V knowledge would probably be able to make something better, but the gist of it would to be to blend the smoothswing sound down to a stop, probably with a little bit of the whoomp sound we all know and love.

Thoughts?

can’t see this video, what font are you using because if the swng ends abruptly then it will sound a bit off, you can always add a bit of reverb or echo to the files and make them a little bit longer with a not so sharp drop off, if the swng is long enough it will still play when smooth swing starts, the sounds do overlap so it’s not case a one just stopping in the new one starting

Nothing about the accent swing sounds here, just the smoothswing stopping suddenly when you stop the saber. Video’s kinda necessary here

Fair enough, I must’ve misunderstood what you were saying,

maybe if you adjust the threshold for the swings to the lowest possible and then swap the swings for the slash’s

take the “whoomp” sounds put them in the swng folder name them swng, them put the swng, wav sounds in the slsh folder and rename them, also adjust the slash threshold

The swing/slash sound has already been played, and will not play again until the swing stops and starts again. The “endswing” sound here would interact with the smoothswing in a similar fashion as the swing/slash sounds, but going from high to low speed instead of low to high speed.

It doesn’t matter if they’ve already played beforehand they will play as soon as you trigger them, I’m suggesting that as a workaround to see if the concept works, the swing sound will play after the smooth swing unless you’re swinging in slow motion

It sounds like you’re just describing accent swings

To try and prove this concept without having to write any code, this would be my dirty way of doing it

pretend that the accent swing at its lowest threshold is a smoothswingend and and the slashes are now the accent swings

wouldn’t setting the accent swing to the lowest threshold just make it play as soon as you move the saber?

You’d have to change the numbers slightly to get the perfect balance, but it will play just after the smooth swing

I feel like the video I sent is just as good of a proof of concept, though, without having to fidget with thresholds and timing

Unfortunately the video won’t play on my end on my phone or my a computer.

does the raw link work? Imgur: The magic of the Internet

No, it says content not viewable in my region

perplexing, I did not know imgur was blocked regionally. I’ll have to find some other host later.

I’ve just used a VPN and watched it. It’s looking like the start of the hum sounds dead meaty, is the accent swing even playing when you do that spin because there should be a good transition from the smooth swing, accent swing then back to the hum, maybe mess around the Hum ducking valuevalue in the smooth swing ini

the accent swing is playing, I can hear it just fine. again though, this has nothing to do with the accent swings. i’m talking theoretically spinning the saber for several seconds (long after the accent swing) and then stopping the saber quickly

I still don’t get what you mean. at the speed you’re swinging that Saber as soon as it comes to a stop the accent swing should kick in, the accent Swing is basically a smooth swing end. In the first half of the video, it doesn’t even sound like the accent swing is kicking in for most of it. It sounds like a problem with the accent swings.

That doesn’t make any sense.
Accent swings start playing a wav file when the swing speed goes over some threshold.
Nothing happens when the swing speed is decreasing.

When I bring my saber to a fullstop after a swing the accent swing plays how does it not make sense?
