I am in need of some input on a saber chassis.
I picked up the Shadow Foil Stranger Danger hilt, and I am planning a chassis. If you haven’t heard of this one, it is from the show Acolyte and separates into two, one being a shoto.
Shadow Foil does offer a chassis, but I like to make my own for fun. It looks like their plan is the upper chassis gets contained by threading the pieces together and trapping it in a small ring recess.
For the lower, it looks like it has a larger diameter on the bottom of the chassis, again trapping it in the threaded lower hilt. See this image
That sounds very incontinent to me. not only does it not always thread off at the right spot (there are many nested shields), it also has the possibility to loose “clock” every time.
So what I would like to do is make it them slide out chassis. the lower will work imo, by the blade/blade plug retention. Just slide in the chassis then blade plug and secure it with the retention screw.
The upper is what I can’t figure out. There is a lip at the blade opening that the blade plug sits on and will also stop the chassis, but nothing on the butt end once the shoto is removed. One idea I had was to make a plug with the same cam lock as the shoto. That seems a bit clunky if I am trying to look cool - take off shoto, grab plug, thread it in, then continue to look cool
I don’t know, any ideas? Maybe some sort of wedge piece that I can put in there after powering on, allows the shoto to click in, but is still easy to remove when done to power off? Maybe a lever lock?
