The saber is an 89sabers Maul Ventress. It has a crystal under the emitter and another in the pommel. I wanted to program these to stay on while the blade is off but after all my testing i have discovered that while there is a second “blade” in the config file, all that it is wired to are two lights on the chassis that cannot even be seen through the hilt.
I edited the BladeConfig so that the “second blade” would use the same pins as the primary(probably a bad idea) with a length of one and the result is that i can light up the emitter crystal,
In my experience, 89 Sabers simply wire their cores up so that all the LEDs - blades, crystals, accents - are all fed from the same data pad on the Proffieboard, which, as you’ve found, means you don’t have individual control of them.
The only way round it is to do some rewiring to split the data lines out so each element is on its own data line, and then amend the config file accordingly. How hard or easy that is varies from hilt to hilt, but that removable core adds to the complexity because you’ll need to integrate one of the new data lines through the multi-pin connector, which might mean some juggling of circuits between the front and back of the hilt.
However it would probably be farly simple to rewire the pommel LEDs to their own data line as they wouldn’t need to go through the multi-pin connector.
If I get an 89Sabers I usually get a DIY Kit for it from SaberBay, & have a custom install done on it.
With everything considered the pricing is pretty much the same as if you bought it straight from the 89Sabers Site (don’t do that, horrible customer service).
You can tell a custom installer exactly what you want, they’ll give options on how they can do the chassis, & they keep in contact with you during the install.
Longer process to finally get your Lightsaber, but nothing like a Lightsaber that was made just for you…
