LEDs just stopped working

Got the Shadowfall from Vader’s Sabers when it came out & it was working fine. That was about 3 months ago.

All of a sudden the LEDs in the emitter stopped working. The board is a Proffie 2.2 & it had my sound & blade fonts on it, but those were the same ones I was using on other proffie 2.2 boards I had.

The Board seemed undamaged, because when it wasn’t plugged in the lights on the Board would come on, the motion controls would work, & the Power & Aux sounds would work.
It would work even when the Proffie Board plugged in the Lightsaber, at least as far as sound went.
It would change fonts, sound like it was turning off & on, & the effects like clash, lock up, LB, ect. all worked.
I still went & installed the original config file but got the same results.

The only thing I noticed other than no lights was that the emitter would get extremely hot extremely quickly. After about 30secs or more of being plugged into the Proffie Board & having an actual font active it would get so hot I could barely touch.

Probably should’ve just told Vader’s Sabers that I never messed with the config file, because I just wanted to ask them if them if they could install another emitter, & they said they would have to look at everything on the lightsaber & it would cost $150+ just to do that, then I would have to pay for Parts, +Shipping.

Okay, enough of me whinnying. Anyone have any idea on anyway to fix this problem without having to replace anything?

This sounds like a short.
It’s probably just one cable touching another cable.

So that means replace the wires or the emitter?

There is a good chance that nothing needs to be replaced, just re-soldered.
Make sure to check for shorts with a multimeter though.

Thanks for the reply so fast!
Never soldered before, but this sounds like a good opportunity to start learning…

If you can find the problem, you can fix it.
Soldering isn’t that hard, but doing it without knowing if you’re making things better or worse might be frustrating.

You might not need soldering either though. A small piece of electric tape in the right place might be all it needs.
