Is my proffie board damaged?

I’ve had this board for over a year (proffie board 2.2 and neopixel blade). I’ve updated the OS and played with the config file before without problems (specially in the first days of new toy rush). But a few days ago I tried to update my board (from 7.7 to 7.14) and thought everything went great. When I tried to turn it on, sound was fine but the blade LEDs started glitching and the board froze after a few seconds. Tried switching it on again and then the blade didn’t light up at all. After that, I’ve tried installing the previous OS version, 6.9, 7.14 again and sound and motion seem to work fine, but the blade will not light up anymore on all versions. I’ve tried simplified versions of my config file with only one preset, but the blade will just not work with the proffie board (I tested the blade with another core and it works fine).

Here is the output from my last attempt to upload OS 7.14 :

When I try to turn it on without the blade, only one LED from the “emitter” turns red for a few seconds and then goes to blue. Sound and motion seem to work fine.

Is this fixable?

Thanks!

I’m grasping at straws, but is it possible the data wire got pinched, or the solder joint damaged somehow when you were plugging the USB cable in and out?

Is the battery fully charged?

Are there any temporary files on the SD card that might be causing problems? Look for and delete any of the folliwng you find on the top level of your SD card:

  • curstate.ini
  • curstate.tmp
  • preset.ini
  • preset.tmp
  • global.ini
  • global.tmp

Did you upload with the USB Type (in the menu under Tools in Arduino) set to Serial only?

Have you tried backing up your SD card, reformatting it with the approved formatter, ( SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows/Mac | SD Association ) then reloading the files onto it?

Have you tried a super-simple blade style like:
StylePtr<InOutHelper<SimpleClash<Lockup<Blast<Blue,White>,AudioFlicker<Blue,White>>,White>, 300, 800>>(),

If none of those work, the next step would involve a simple test meter to start checking circuits and continuity.

-Is the battery fully charged?
yes, with an external charger.

-Are there any temporary files…?
that was one of my last attempts, erasing those files, no difference.

-Did you upload with the USB Type…?
yes

-Have you tried backing up your SD card…?
just tried it, no difference (kioxia exceria 16gb).

-Have you tried a super-simple blade style…?
just tried it, no difference.

I guess I’ll have to start checking for continuity problems. I was hoping it was more of a software problem.

Thanks!

Usually the first thing to do is to figure out if it’s power or data that’s not working properly. These POD topics might be helpful:

Note, these topics may focus on how to test board features, but they methods used can be used at any point in the signal path.

That’s a great place to start. Thanks! I’ve played with the software part of my proffie, this is the first time I’ll be poking at the hardware. But want to try everything I can to fix it before getting a new one.
