And yes, the water really is that color.
I remember going to Cancun one NYE holiday, and most of the time the water at the hotel beach was murky, except for one day where it was completely calm, a bright jade colour, and you could walk out for 1/4 km at waist height as a 10yo. The day after, it was back to normal.
