now I guess I can add that resistor to the blade, my question is do I add it to the data - or +?

That sux, man. You have 2 data lines? That’s kinda funky.

Is it to protect the components or for blade ID?
Blade ID resistor goes between data and -
Protection resistor goes in-line data wire.
