Help with Phase Change

Got a saber set up with with The Phase Change (Corruption) effect and it functions just fine, except it reverts back to the original blue blade a second after the animation is finished. Any advice on what could be going on?

Unfortunately the style information sections are missing so I have no way to troubleshoot. My library includes a comment section at the top of each style code with copyright, set up and usage instructions and information I use for troubleshooting. This section has no impact on memory and should always be included with the code. With it missing I can’t really tell you much.

I would make sure your font is properly set up to match the code (this would have been information in the style information section) and make sure you don’t have two control layer styles in the same preset (this is also information in the style information section).

If you can’t figure out the issue I would regenerate the code in the library and keep the style information intact.

I’m using the provided style in the Fett263 font package from Juansith. I believe you may be right that it’s a control layer issue tho. How can I identify that looking at a specific style so I can remove it from another preset? Or would it be better to just generate a fresh one?

I would regenerate in the library, there’s a Recipe for his font already, so it’s very easy. If you need more than one style, generate the Control Layer first, then uncheck the Control Layer for the rest (or choose a Secondary or Accent/Crystal style as it will automatically uncheck Control Layer).

Okay I rebuilt all of the styles (except for the multiphase style, I’m still using the provided) and everything works, except for the transition. The transition and audio play when the special ability command is entered but as soon as the transition sound is done it plays the quick phase change sound and immediately swaps back to blue. Also, when doing the special ability 2 phase shift the whole blade immediately changes to red, and then phase shifts back to blue. I’ve attached my updated config.

If you mean the Osha preset, I only see style information on one style, so I can’t really troubleshoot the others.

Change the other styles to

StylePtr<Black>(),

And just keep the first Control Layer style. Then upload and test.

If the Phase change still doesn’t work properly your font is not set up per the styles’ expectation.

Watch the “Phases and Alt Fonts” video at the top of the library and make sure the alt000/ and alt001/ folders are in the root of the font, not a subfolder.

If the Phase change does work, then you had another Control layer previously, so regenerate the code without a Control Layer for all of the remaining styles and keep the style information with each style so it’s easy to confirm.

The style info is the same for all four entries in each preset. So the little style block at the top is reflective of the whole preset. This one is kind of a bear because of the four “blades.”

The only style with a control layer is the Osha one and the fonts are exactly as provided in the alt folders in the main “Osha” folder. I did not want to risk changing anything there. I will try to troubleshoot as you suggested.

Another strange thing is that it will stay phase changed if done from off, with specialy ability 5, but it plays the entire corruption sound before doing the quick phase change animation and sound. But, the blade does then stay shifted and in the new style/font.

Okay, the troubleshoot with the “blank” styles seemed to have no effect. I’ve gone through my font folders and ensured that everything matches up as well. I’m completely stumped.

So, I rebuilt a new multiphase style and subbed that in for the provided one and it’s having the same issues. It will play the animation and then afterward swap back to the previous color. If I use “Special Ability 2” the whole blade changes color instantly and then “wipes” back to the previous color.

That almost always means the font isn’t set up correctly for Alt Font.

And you’re sure it’s uploading correctly and you’re uploading the updated config?

There’s only two causes for a Phase switching back. Missing altNNN folders or multiple Control Layers overriding each other.

When you uploaded with all styles but one set to “Black” were all of your blades off except the main?

Part me thinks maybe you didn’t actually upload the changes. Try introducing a typo, remove the “S” from the first “StylePtr” and try to upload, if you don’t get an error you’re not uploading the config you think you are.

Other than not uploading the updated config I can’t think of any other cause besides the font not being srt up right.

Yes there is an alt000 and an alt001 directory in the “Osha” directory. I’ve uploaded my current config multiple times now. I’m using Arduino and I’m getting the expected readouts. I can try with black blade profiles config again but I’m certain that it uploaded when I tried it and that I was able to reupload my last config afterward. That config I generated fresh with no control layers except the Osha preset.

Would the font directory issue also explain it staying transitioned after Special Ability 5 by doing the phase change wipe animation after playing the full corruption sound?

Yes, this Phase Change style requires the specified altNNN directories exist with at least one sound within the font, if they don’t you can only use Phase 0, which is why it reverts. The only two issues that cause the AltF to revert are duplicated Control Layers or missing altNNN directory, the Black preset except for 1 stule rules out Control Layer causing.

Would having the four copies of blade style in the config with the control layer cause issues?

I have updated the config for ‘black’ blades and have confirmed that all presets work and the blades are ‘off’ except for the “Osha” preset. I have also reformatted my SD and reuploaded the “alt000” and “alt001” directories as provided into the Osha directory on the SD from scratch and the issue persists.

If you copy the Control Layet style to other blades that preset now has 4 control layers in it.

My instructions were to only have one style in the preset be the Multi-Phase, then the other blades in THAT preset should be the Black ones. You put the Black styles in another preset. The Multi-Phase prrset should only have one style, the other styles should all ne Blavk for testing within that specific preset.

This is why you need to keep the style information with every style. Only ONE style in a preset can have a Control Layer. If you copy that style to other blades you now have multiple Control Layers in one preset. Go back and read my original instructions to generate copies of the style in the library and uncheck Control Layer if you need to copy the style to more blades in a preset.

I see, I misunderstood the instruction. I will replace the other styles in the Osha preset with black and test again. I did not copy the style info because they are all the same for each blade copy in each preset. I would have kept them if they were different.

Okay, that was it. I read " Control Layer should only be applied to one blade per preset" a million times and the per-preset did not click. I will build a new set of styles for Osha from the recipe and test again.

Rebuilt with the recipe and we are working just fine. Thanks for the patient assistance. Largely a misunderstanding on my part because I was thinking of the full preset as the style and not as individual styles within a preset and that the code provided with the sound font package would be conflicting with itself, but now I know.
