Heard of Carly King?

Carly King is this upcoming female in the Star Wars community. She’s sponsored by Artsaber & NSaber, & you can get a 10% discount through her. (doesn’t matter to me but pretty big)
She doesn’t really even do that many reviews with them, & when she does they’re mostly some really low end ones, or maybe an SE Saber. Sabertrio gave her a “Harry Potter Slytherin” saber once with her name or something in Arbesh.
She does Lightsaber content like that & like 10% of her collection is $20 toy sabers. She just says “this is what we in the saber community call a neopixel” & I heard her say one time “and this is what we in saber community call an empty hilt” And most of her lightsabers she has are always out of charge, I guess because she doesn’t know what a kill switch is or just never charges them & doesn’t bother to do it before her videos.

But what’s really weird is her community content. She loves stuff like the sequels & knows nothing of the fandom, yet she gets meetings & interviews with actors from the movie like Ray Parker & that “Finn” guy on a stage. She talked to George Lucas & David Filoni. She even did a interview with the guy that sold Darth Vader’s prop lightsaber back in September in that room where it was & got to hold it during like half the interview!

This girl seems to have passion for Star Wars, but no one ever shared their thoughts with her (as you can see from her community comments), & she seems to have never wanted to spend more than around $250 on a lightsaber at the most.

Am I completely wrong & a bad person for saying, “What success she has in the Star Wars community is based completely off the fact that she looks pretty & wears a bunch of makeup, so the Insecure SW Nerds (you gotta embrace it like The Force guys!) are attracted to her.”?

I got tired of her content but it’s fun.

She’s got a little of everything, and yes she is making a career out of her love of Star Wars. Who knows what she does to get access and interviews…probably a lot of calling, writing, waiting, and traveling. Maybe she has an agent or some industry contacts.

Her community is relatively creep free. I support her because I think Star Wars could use influencers who are nice and don’t focus on screaming their negativity into the void.

It’s easy to forget that this is a niche within a niche within a niche. (And everyone here is much more technically inclined than the average person)

To the people who can make someone (even relatively) famous (some kind of general population), no detail matters. $250 is a lot for a toy from the outside in. “And look, it makes cool sounds too!”

You don’t win mass appeal as a persona by being technical, having strong and detailed opinions, and being bogged down in details, or talking too much about something particular, you do so by being easily digestible and (via some channel) simply relatable (or having something easy to latch onto without much thought or effort).

A perfect storm of mediocrity is what most people want… I realize that sounds kind of edgy lmao, I hope you understand what I mean.

It’s simply a different world of people and thought.

It’s probably also fair to say that yeah, either her or someone working for her probably does some work to make connections and get those things. I doubt Dave Filoni saw her videos and said “man, I’ve gotta talk to her,” yknow?

Persistent inquiry and a couple connections in media can get you far it seems.

She’s a Girl. A very, very, Pretty Girl.

She makes & edits her own videos, looks like all her interviews are done on Bluetooth phone’s, & she just does all her lightsaber content from her very bland white room that doesn’t have any of her lightsabers hanging up or on stands.

She also does a good amount of instructional videos on how to spin a lightsaber, apparently because she’s some sort of “performative martial art expert”.

Yeah but she’s extremely low budget, works by herself, & from what I’ve seen other than the Darth Vader Prop Lightsaber video (also not the best filming), she does all these 20-30min interviews with the Actors & Behind-the-Stage People at random Comic-cons mostly in Florida where she lives. (Disney & all…)

It’s just when you look at her Youtube or Twitch, no one is talking Star Wars. They’ll make Star Wars refer jokes like “They need to call you General Grievous with your lightsaber collection!”, but no one is really talking anything Star Wars or Lightsabers. No one is sharing any knowledge. There just all talking about how the video is so cool.

Just really annoying that I watch some Star Wars channels that talk about a Character or Movies or What-ifs, but it’s different when she does it. She just talks about how the sequels are super cool because the fighting is even better, & the Force Powers are even stronger. Or how Darth Maul, Rey, Kylo Ren, ect. are super cool because of their look.
She’s never really talks about anything in detail, & no one on her channels do either.

Very inconsistent with her videos. Her last Youtube video was 2 months ago, but she’s still around 235K subscribers on there, around 1.4 million on TikTok, & supposedly over 2 million on twitter.

Why do I care…Why am I stressing…

I don’t really know what your point is.
I think that falls in line pretty much perfectly with what I said. This doesn’t seem like something to take anywhere near seriously, IMO.

In case it’s not your intention, your post comes off more as jealous than anything else .

You’ve gotta start your own lightsaber channel!

I think the SW community should be welcoming to everyone. Even if they are pretty and popular. (Maybe especially if they are pretty and popular?) I watch some of Carly’s videos and they are fun, interesting and as far as I can tell: factually correct, which is more than I can say for most videos on YT.

Nobody is forcing you to watch her videos, and if you don’t like it, this is not the place to complain about it. Everybody is welcome here.

Yeah, she always comes across as genuinely passionate about her geekdom.

I cannot believe it’s 2026 and we’re still putting up with this bullshit narrative about women and hobbies. It’s still happening in the DJ community as well, and it’s dumb there too.

I wouldn’t say I’m jealous, but more angry that she doesn’t really bother to really put in the research.

This seems to make the majority of Star Wars enthusiast happy enough to follow. The SW Fandom’s interest in The Force is diminished. Why are people saying they liked the Sequels??? Is it truth or need to fit in?

For whatever reason it just makes me upset that Star Wars isn’t immortal like it should be!!!
Why hasn’t Star Wars found the secret to Immortality where you don’t need ten hoses hooked up to your back!!!

I liked them. My son’s real first Star Wars was TFA. We went to Galaxy’s Edge and had an amazing time.

It’s all about context. My personal kid years Star Wars was ROTJ.

My adult favorite was TLJ, and Mando and Andor. Oh also Solo, that one was pretty good. I know there are people who don’t feel the same and I’m cool with that. We can usually agree that at least we got Kylo Ren.

The other day I was talking about lightsabers to a group of 8 year olds, and I realized they were confused. So I said it’s a magical sword from the Star Wars universe and they said “like the legos!”

So for them Star Wars is the coolest lego sets.

Star Wars is immortal, and it takes many forms, some which we old heads may find unnatural. Cheer up, mate

I love how Star Wars is a generational thing that gets past down, sort of like Master to Apprentice/Padawan & then they find someone to past it on to.

I’m 42 so my favorite memories were of watching the OG Trilogy with my Dad. I still remember that first time I heard Vader say “I am your Father.”

OMG me as a little kid & that not being common knowledge amongst everyone at the time, it just made me freak out! I don’t think I’ve ever felt “OMG I’m so Scared” & “OMG that’s so Cool” at the same time like that. It was just stuck trying to figure out if it was a good thing or not. My Dad had to calm me down until the end of the movie & told me something like “You’ll find out in the next movie because it’s the last one.” All I thought of until the next weekend…

This whole topic has it’s points and counterpoints, the thing is we’re not the target audience in the least and so many lightsaber and font reviews and reviewers come and go it’s gotten to be too much. We’ll watch stuff here and there and other than that YouTube isn’t where we go to see lightsaber info. It’s the Fb Groups and for all intents it always will be, influencers be damned.

Now if ya want something really good, that’s not lightsaber reviews, how-to’s, etc. maybe go down some deep rabbit holes to dig onto some lore then hit up The Stupendous Wave or Geetsly’s instead. Both are long-time respected “lore masters”. Then if you want something edgier watch Alan’s Generation Tech videos. JustSaying since both of my kiddo’s and family tend to pull that stuff up first.

Well, that and video game cutscene movies because The Force Unleashed (Starkiller - Galen Marek), Jedi: Fallen Order (Project Auger etc.) & Survivor, and BattleFront (*Project Cinder!!).

I miss Benji’s content, honestly. He used to do font reviews but now he’s a dumb grown up.

He could find the time if the want was there.

She can spin, that’s for sure.
