Frankenstrip

I have been on a quest to use up all of the bits and pieces of things around the shop and made a long strip out of all of the little leftovers from blade making etc.

I wondered if mixing two different bands of ‘neopixels’ would be possible, as the width btw the positive and negative vary. Just wanted to back light a saber shelf with a WLED unit I had. Anyway, the point is I thought it was interesting to see the strips functioning just fine, but with variations in the color due to manufacturing differences.

So here’s the joint where the strips change, using resistor legs to angle out the power lines.

It’s barely visible in the blue range and works fine for lighting a saber shelf.

I was expecting more “stitches” from the title. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I must admit I’ve done the same when I made a blade for a Kylo Crossguard - used up loads of old strip offcuts. (This one was for myself, not a customer). Since the bladestyles would be unstable and the tube would have stippled silicone all over it for the unstable effect, I reasoned that any subtle extra shadwing from the fractionally wider LED spacing at the joins wouldn’t show up. Worked a treat!
