Hey everyone so I have a 2023 proffiev2.2 board and quite literally nothing works. I have spent countless hours going through reddit, youtube, google, and the crucible trying to fix my proffie board. I am stuck. Back in 2023 I purchased a proffie lightsaber from Allysabers. The moment I tried to plug in my saber to my computer (With the micro usb), it immediately said “Font directory not found”. They told me they originally flashed the config file to the board and sent me a new one. Except surprise surprise now the board doesn’t show up in device manager, disk management, or file explorer for that matter. I have attempted to update the drivers currently in 2025 as Fett263 has an automatic version of it. That did not work so I tried zadig. Nothing shows up. I watched a nearly 2 hour tutorial of how to get a new config file with the “Common” folder and soundfont folder. I was able to reformat the SD card and add those folders into it before plugging it back into the proffie motherboard and plugging it into my computer. “Font Directory Not Found” and no matter what I do, it does not work. Nothing. I have send dozens of emails. Not a single company is willing to help me with this and I am afraid I might be stuck with a nearly $500 paper weight that I got to use once back in 2023. I have tried the boot and reset button to no avail. I am willing to pay someone for helping me fix this. Could my proffieboard be completely broken? The USB serial interface does not show up whatsoever in zadig and there is no physical and possible way for me to get this to work now. What do I do and is there someone I can send this to to get fixed?
Uhm, if it was broken when you got it, the place you bought it from should have fixed it for you.
I’m guessing they aren’t going to want to do that now that is’ been ~2 years though.
There are other people who can fix a Proffieboard saber, some might even be on this board. They don’t usually have a company, just people with some extra time. They still like to be paid for their services though.
That said, if we can get the computer to actually recognize the board, we should be able to fix it. Has it ever been recognized by the computer? Have you tried a different cable? Have you tried a different USB port? Have you tried a different computer?
Ultimately it comes down to this: If you can put the board in bootloader mode, and it still does not show up, then something is broken. That might be the board, the computer, or the cable. And about 97 times out of a hundred, it’s the cable.
Putting the board in bootloader mode can be a bit tricky though, as the buttons are small and it can be hard to know if you pressed them right. One thing to look out for, is that the board will not play ANY sound while in bootloader mode, not even “font directory not found”.
If it turns out that we cannot get this board to connect to the computer, then there are still options. One would be to buy an st-link v2 thing, connect it up to the board and use that to program the board. It’s a bit involved and requires a little soldering, but other people have managed, so it’s not impossible.
Another option would be to just replace the board. More soldering, but then it’s completely fixed afterwards. New Proffieboards cost more than an st-link v2 programmer though.
If none of these options sound appealing, hopefully you can find someone willing to fix the saber for you. (But this is also the most expensive option.)
