Ever have your proffie scream at you?

I was finishing up an install, and to check my wiring was solid, I was putting together a test config with two presets, one with a font and one for battery charge. It’s got 7 blades (several sub blades) for accent pixels.

I shared a short video in the Proffieboard FB group, but when I go to boot it just beeps unendingly. It does not do this if I flash it back to default proffie config. I temporarily disconnected my negative leads to my accent pixels when troubleshooting because I initially thought it was a wiring thing. It’s not.

Odd, I will try the config myself and see if it bahaves the same way when I try it.

With the help of someone in the FB group I got it operational. We abandoned most of the OS6 edit mode defines, and only used simple OS5.9 blade styles, along with using sa22c prop file. (I also reconnected my accent pixel wires)

I guess I can confirm it’s either something in the config, or something on the SD card the config requires (i.e. things in the common folder).

I did build that test config from another successful multi blade array test config I had just installed as well. So, I wasn’t initially expecting the issue to be programming related until I confirmed by reverting to default config (and now this OS5.9ish config).

Double check you have current plugin in Arduino under Boards Manager. You need Proffieboard plugin v3.6.0 to run OS6.

Also, make sure you don’t have KEEP_SAVEFILES_WHEN_PROGRAMMING defined, if a previous config had a different number of blades or styles saved it could cause as well. Be sure to read through here before using this define: OS6 PSA - Using #define KEEP SAVEFILES WHEN PROGRAMMING

It is v3.6.0, I’ve installed several sabers this year with OS6 without issue. I will double check, though. And I will also take into account the PSA. It’s very possible that it was an issue of editing the blade array after pushing the code with KEEP SAVEFILES define. I think the real issue may have been an USB interuption on my computer during the Arduino upload. But it’s running now, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get it back into the weird crash type situation.

pretty sure you caught it. long story short, it was set to an older plugin because I’d been swapping which computer I used arduino on (that’s the long story), and the computer that would work wasn’t set to 3.6.0

Yeah, OS6 requires the new plugin or it will freeze the board. Glad you figured it out.

Actually, that was not it. I verified both of your suggestions. KEEP SAVEFILES WHEN PROGRAMMING is not defined as you can see in first post. I double checked the plugin version. Arduino is 1.8.19, Proffie is 3.6.0. I used the same config pasted here instead of the one Gary Janota helped me with (using 5.9 styles, no OS6 defines, and sa22c prop file), and it immediately started beeping again after upload. So, I just reverted back to the one Gary gave me. I’m probably going to program with 5.9 in minde so I can get the saber to the customer. OS6 is not something they care about, it’s just what I got used to using, and I need to get 3 sabers programmed by tomorrow. Only if the error message was written to recognize it. Try the fix and see if it corrected.

That was it. But I did get “ERROR IN FONT DIRECTORY” message. I think may have the Quotes off. But it works!

Cool, yeah that just means you have some wrong sequentially in a font, Serial Monitor will tell you if you hook up.
