Crystal chamber won't ignite

I’ve got a Force unleashed saber with what looks like a single led crystal chamber
I don’t have the original config and after flashing, updating it, its stopped working
The saber has a removable chassis. Inside there’s 3 wires going up into the hilt, positive and negative power and just one data line coming from data 1, so the main blade and CC are sharing the same data line?
I’ve put code for the CC into my config mostly from Fett’s Library. I’m using the V3.9 proffie board.
The main blade ignites normally.
Any advice to get it working? Thanks very much

This makes me think it’s wired differently than the BladeConfig is written. You’re probably going to need to request the original config from the installer. If the the BladeConfig is different then the leds won’t work.

And yeah, like Fett263 said, if the wiring is different than what you declared in your config, it is not going to work.

Post a photo of the board, it has been done before to “reverse engineer” a config/wiring.

Thanks for your replies, I had the original config, but my laptop was stolen along with all all my saber configs and data.
Unfortunately no backup was done, I wasn’t aware you could backup your proffieboard before flashing it.
How do I post a photo to the forum?

Here’s the proffieboard pic. Led 2 and 3 are bridged you can’t quite see it
The plug in end of the chassis, the top row is wired to button 1 and 2 , gnd/-ive power and 5V.
The bottom row is Led 2 and 3, +ive power and data1 wired.
I discovered a blue led under the button cover.

Get a multimeter, set it for continuity testing (beep mode) and just figure out where the wires go. (Without having the battery inserted into the hilt.) Once you know where the wires go, we can figure out what the blade config should be.

I’ve got a multimeter but have little to no knowledge on using it. Continuity testing? Can you tell me more?
I’ll do some research and come back.

Most multimeters have a continuity mode. It just means that it beeps when there is a connection between the two probes. You can use this to test where wires are going (and not going). Just touch one of the solder wires with one point, and one of the potential places it might end up with the other. If it beeps, there is a connection between the two points.

I also highly recommend that all soldering is tested with with a multimeter this way. Both test that the solder point does connect to where you want it to go, and also test that it does not connect to nearby wires and solder points. Doing it this way is much more reliable than visual inspections.

Please note that continuity mode can sometimes be confused by active electronics, if something doesn’t seem to make sense, try swapping the probes around and see if you get the same result.

And take the battery out and disconnect USB when measuring continuity. Power should only come from the multimeter when testing continuity.

Of course you should “beep out” your lines with a continuity tester, as suggested, but I did take a stare at your pics. Maybe there are some clues.

It looks like you do have one data line. The other data pads are empty.

Then theres that 5V pad…I’ve never used that to power anything. Maybe it’s being used to power the CC pixel? Or could just be filled in with solder :slight_smile:

According to the config you posted, there are two independent blades:

129 pixel blade hooked up to Data 1 (usually the center PCB pin), and LED 2/3 (the negative wire from the PCB in the emitter to the bridged pads)
1 pixel CC hooked up to Data 1 and LED 2/3

Is that true?

I’m thinking either you need a subblade for the first pixel (but then it would light up right now, hmmmm) or somehow it’s hooked up to that 5V pad and you need to add that to the blade array.

Since the main blade is fine, the thing you need most is an idea of where that single pixel ties in.

Testing now,alot to take in. Ok so the -ive/gnd pin beeps on both momentary switches and the single blue led.The both switches beep on the -ive pin. Also yes it beeps when connected to data1 and the central pogo pins. Thanks for sticking with me its slow going haha.
I forgot to mention ive got 1 led on the crystal chamber, but i cant get to it.
Does that mean there’s 3 ‘blades’?
Main blade and blue pixel light up on ignition but not the CC.

If I touch the negative button terminals with 5V the blue pixel lights up.

Lyle yes the 5V is powering the single blue pixel. Your right there’s only one data
line data1, I assume both the crystal chamber and main blade are sharing the data pad?

Since you mention it’s blue, are you sure it’s a controllable pixel and not a normal LED?

I think its just a normal led, theres no link to a data cable (data1)
I cant get battery power to the board, its still recognised in arduino and I can flash it but no power when I insert the battery😱

OK. I’m not too well versed in the 5V pad and how it works, but on the Proffie V3 info page the pinout sections says:

* 5v - generated by the proffieboard, normally it's only on when sound is playing.

That makes me think that if the LED is connected to the 5V it needs only to be resistored and hooked up to a ground pad. When ever the board has power the LED sholud go on during sound playback. And it doesn’t need to be accounted for in the blade array. @profezzorn is that correct?

Charge your battery all the way. You can use your multimeter set to DC voltage to measure it too. It should top off maybe at 4.2 volts after charging. Definately over 3.7.

If it is fully charged and doesn’t work, try another battery if have it. It could also be the battery protection circuit tripping, which resets over time or when you charge it. Then it’s like you have a short.

Thanks man, I finished the testing data1, led 2 and 3 and positive power all have continuity and beep on the right pogo pins at the emitter🙂

That’s good :slight_smile: If you can confirm the CC LED is hooked to 5V and ground that’d be good too.
