Crazy idea of the day: pogo pin PCBs with FETs

The idea would be to make the pogo pin board listen to the data signal and turn the power off when there is no data going through. The pogo pin board + and - would be hooked up directly to the battery. This would reduce the number of FETs needed on the board, potentially making smaller boards possible. Or freeing up space for other things, like maybe an antenna.
