Board smoking during upload 😳

Hey guys, random question here. I was uploading some fun Christmas blade styles to a Yoda 89sabers proffie a couple days ago when my board randomly started smoking upon upload?

I immediately unplugged it but couldn’t tell where the smoke was coming from. Everything looked normal, and I didn’t see any charring anywhere. I tried unsuccessfully to reconnect with no luck, followed my a few unsuccessful attempts at resetting the board and uploading again.

After giving up, I returned a few hours later and tried the reboot again, this time successfully for a Christmas miracle. Everything works perfectly normally now.

Any idea what could have caused this and how to avoid it happening again in the future? I did have my battery inserted, but I feel as though I’ve seen a number of times on here that it’s okay to do that. Any thoughts? When I saw that thing smoking, I was sure it was done for.

the upload of the proffieboard doesn’t usually use power, the only time magic smoke happens is during the build process, so a few questions, did you have the battery in the appropriate position. neg with neg and pos with pos? e.g. did you have the battery in reverse polarity?

Nope. Normal position.

Uploading wouldn’t do it, but some sort of short would.
So, maybe your battery positive touched battery negative, or something else of that nature. Goose-necked wires, or loose strands…

It’s a tight fit to get the usb cord inserted. I wonder if I dislodged something or caused something to make contact that normally doesn’t. Weird. Maybe I’ll just take the battery out from now on. Especially when it’s easy.

config questions it’s always best to copy and past BUT photos of the wiring helps as well take a a high def photo of your board just to see if you didn’t short something out.
