After Adding Custom Fonts and Upload to Board, Saber No longer Works

I bought a Proffie saber from CCSabers that I’ve having some trouble with. At the beginning I was getting an “Exit Status 74” error code after installing new fonts and attempting to run Arduino. Eventually I found this link ProffieOS Documentation: How to recover from a bad programming in a post and it seemed to fix the error and finally got me to the point where Arduino gave me the count up to 100%, seemingly fixing the issue and installing the new fonts.

However, when I put the chassis back together (SD card was already in, and just needed to replace the battery and plug the chassis back into the hilt), the saber no longer turns on.

I’m at a loss. I think I may have had this problem before but with a completely different brand, and the reboot actually worked back then. Does anyone know what I might have done wrong?

Thanks!

Do you have a removable chassis that can be activated outside of the saber? If it turns on outside of the main saber, I think it’s a physical problem like a short or a loose wire. A short would trip the battery safety and the saber would go “dead” until it resets.

Maybe try another battery or recharge the current one.

Yeah, the chassis is removable but it can’t be activated outside of the saber. I did try charging the battery, and the indicator on the charger claims it’s fully charged.

I do have some experience with electrical work (not much, but enough) and the wires all look like they are soldered correctly (nothing detached) and none that would touch the hilt to short the saber entirely.

I’m going to try and get in touch with the manufacturer too and see what they say.

If the speaker is in the core, and you are using fetts prop, you can use twist on/off to see if it starts up.

Thats true! Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.

I have had similar problems with a few of my LGT/proffie hilts–CCSabers resells 89Sabers, TXQ, and LGT hilts–are you having this issue with an LGT? I’ve found those gold chassis particularly temperamental. The bootloader reboot cycle and blind flashing fixed the problem for me–although I’ve had to go through it a few times… and once I’ve gotten them working again, I’m a bit reluctant to tweak them any further. The tongue that covers the proffieboard makes pressing the reset buttons difficult–I eventually cut it off on one of my LGT chassis.

Another thread mentions an issue with one of the chips on some of the boards manufactured during COVID–this could be related to that.
