Proffie track playing issue

I recently purchased a saber from Sabertrio, and there seems to be an issue playing tracks that I haven’t had on a saber before. Best I can tell I am setting up the SD card and config the same way I have in the past. The sound is wavy and sounds a little crackly, and only happens when I play the tracks. The saber sounds play the way they should. I purchased to new SD card to see if that would fix the issue and it still does it. Does anyone have any ideas on what may cause this? This is how my config is set up, with one of the fonts included.

First, you’ll want to make sure the tracks are actually formatted correctly. The recommended format is .wav files that are 44khz, 16-bit mono PCM.

Then I’d check the actual SD performance, if the SD card should be at least 1200kbps read speed with 12 simulatenous audio streams. Subpar or poor performing SD cards could cause issues.

If you experience lag or slow response you need to run ‘sdtest’ in Serial Monitor. Even if SD is labeled as high performance you should run sdtest to be sure.

  • First, remove DISABLE_DIAGNOSTIC_COMMANDS define from your config.
  • Upload new config (you may temporatily need to remove some presets if exceeding FLASH memory)
  • With saber connected go to Arduino > Tools > Serial Monitor
  • Type ‘sdtest’
  • If you do not have 1200kbps read speed and 12 simulatenous audio streams you will want to replace your SD with a better performing card.

You can also connect to the Serial Monitor while playing a track and see if it’s printing out any errors or issues, if you’re unsure you can post the Serial Monitor results for us to review.

Thanks for the response. The best I can tell all sound files are formatted correctly, they are just straight from Kyberphonic, etc., and I think the Arduino test showed good results. I will post the results to be sure. I then had a track playing while having the saber connected to the Serial Monitor and the only results that showed up were the battery voltage. OK, yeah looks good. So then it may be that your Volume is set too high for your speaker and/or something is contacting your speaker when it’s playing louder sounds like the tracks (moving more). I would try lowering your volume and seeing if the cracking goes away. The tracks may be too much for the speakers. Also check that there’s nothing resting on the speaker or obstructing the speaker movement.
