If you run “scanid” with no blade id, what do you get?
And do you still get about 1023 when you run it with the blade in?
Yes I tested it several times to get that number?

Any GPIO-capable pin will work, so Data*, Button*, Rx, Tx.
It would be wired to a free pogo pin. When the blade is inserted, that pogo pin gets connected to something, which triggers the blade detect.
It shoulld still be possible to do all this stuff without blade detect though.
The V3 config generator can provide an example of how it’s done:
Just check the “blade detect” checkbox.

so I compiled and flashed, but my expectation was that if I set the blade id and blade detect it would play the bladein and bladeout wav files, if I have lightsaber blade on or off but that didn’t happen.
also the bladearray no_blade only had 1 preset. but all my other fonts are loaded as well.

the blade id seems to be under 1000 regardless of the blade being in or out.
Do you have an ID resistor in your blade?
Do you have Neopixels in the hilt connected in parallel with the blade?
It’s obviously going to be hard for ProffieOS to tell the two apart if they end up with the same ID.
i think the answers to that are no and no. but I reverted back to no bladeid. I am getting a weird behaviour creating new presets but I’ll raise that somewhere else.
Unfortunately, SnapshotBladeID isn’t very predictable because it measures a combination of resistance and capacitance. What that means is that sometimes two blades (or a blade and no blade) comes out with similar values, and it’s not easy to tell them apart. In cases like this you need a resistor in the blade and/or a pullup resistor in the hilt (which can be done by briding to another pad on the proffieboard.) to get more reasonable values.
That said, it’s fairly unusual for “no blade” to come out with the same value as a blade, so I’m wondering if there is a reason for that…
Does your hilt-side pcb have leds and how is it wired? Scrolling up and looking at your blade definition, it looks like it’s either in series or more likely in parallel, both will alter the blade id scan. the only way to get reliable and consistent blade id’s is with the hilt-side pcb wired independently. It can work, but it won’t be consistent.
