Doing a wiring setup with a v3.9 board with a killswitch. Have blade positive direct from battery positive. So just realized the blade already has the high draw it needs and I likely dont need a 20awg from switch to board. What size AWG would everyone place from killswitch to board?
Anything AWG30 or thicker will work. AWG28 or thicker is recommended.
Wow. Didn’t realise board power consumption was that low that you could get away with 30 for board+. (Obviously I realise board neg must be the full 22awg). Always thought 26 was pretty much the limit. Another useful nugget to pull out in tight installs. ![]()
AWG 30 is good for about one amp.
Proffieboards can use more than that, but the average current is much lower.
You might be right that AWG 26 would be better though.
Awesome news, I’ve been needlessly going to big without actually thinking about the power the board uses. Great to hear for tight builds. Thanks everyone!
I 100 appreciate this advice. Is this because there’s a convergence of the current flow as everything returns to ground
?
Yes exactly. The ground to the blade come from the FETs on the Proffieboard. With no other direct batt neg connection to the blade, the FETs, and the therefore by physical connection the board, has to carry the full power of the return path to the battery.
